We zoom things out we still have pockets of intense drought in the Pacific Northwest - Big Sky country, Northern Rockies Central Rockies, Southern Rockies, Southern Plains, Desert Southwest and into Southern California so the drought continues and not much relief coming our way long term, short term maybe a little bit but not too much. We do have a slight drought situation continuing as a going to Stark, Marshall, Bureau, Putnam and LaSalle counties but we assume things out north of I-80 north of I-88 we’re still in a moderate drought situation that’s Rockford back toward Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. That translates into the drought situation for us here in Central Illinois and all over the country. snow cover looks impressive but it’s really kind of deceiving - all of this is upper elevation snows in the northwest and also the northeast in the New England states you’re seeing a lot of upper elevation snow so snow drought for a big chunk of the country. January just the opposite - we’re been averaging about 5 degrees below normal per day and we’ve doubled the snow but we continue to be in a snow drought here in Central Illinois we’ve seen higher totals northwest of the Illinois River around Galesburg but that you’re still in a snow drought - Peoria is in a snow drought - running about four inches behind Bloomington-Normal only a couple of inches of snow so far running about the 6-7 inches behind and as you go toward I-57 - let’s say Champaign - no snow at all. You know the old saying goes “to see where you’re going you have to see where you’ve been” so let’s recap winter so far here in Central Illinois December and January well it’s been a Jekyll and Hyde situation - December was mild, 9 degrees above normal per day with a couple of inches of snow.
